A very good movie ruined by the intensenly irritating
background piano music. They should have used Indian instruments for
the emotional parts.
Car crashes and the desert scenes are truly spectacular.
It is set in Las Vegas and surrounding desert areas. Reliance should
build a billion dollar casino there, not Taj Mahal , but a sort of
Hindu Angkor temple type. Sit on the floor with pillows for the meals,
flying mattresses , that sort of thing.
That one song in the desert 'Zindagi' alone is worth the price
of the ticket

Blast deepens Kerala film industry crisis

Idukki - An explosion on the sets of a movie at the hill resort of
Kuttikkanam in Idukki district on Monday further complicated the
crisis besieging the Kerala film industry. Two vehicles of the
production team were damaged in the blast that occurred around 3.30
am on Monday at a hotel in Kuttikkanam where the team was putting up.
There were no casualties.

The Kerala State Film Producers' Association and the Film Employees
Federation of Kerala (Fefka) were quick to suspect Macta (Malayalam
Cine-Technicians' Association) Federation for the blast. But Macta
Federation leader and film director Vinayan said the accusation was
borne out of the "distorted thoughts" of those organisations. The
producers' association said they would have to think of withdrawing
from the business totally, if incidents like these continued to
happen.

Preliminary investigations suggested that the explosives used for the
blast were quarry-grade. The police recovered normal quarry-grade
fuses from the blast site. A forensic team from Kochi inspected the
site and collected samples to be sent to the forensic laboratory in
Thiruvananthapuram for analysis. Police dog squad from Idukki also
inspected the area but failed to sniff out any clues.

Sources in the industry said the blast had vitiated the situation in
the film production sector just when efforts to end the multi-pronged
problems in the industry were beginning to bear fruits. The film
producers had suspended production of new ventures, distribution
companies had stopped releasing new movies on April 16, and the
exhibitors had closed their halls on May 1, in the wake of rising
costs and diminishing returns.

The main reason for the stalemate was the disproportionate
remunerations being drawn by superstars like Mohanlal and Mammootty,
but hopes of an end to the crisis had dawned last weekend with AMMA
(Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes) agreeing to lower
remunerations of actors drawing more than Rs 3,00,000 per project by
25 per cent. This and some other proposals had led to the withdrawal
of the "agitations" by various associations and shooting, releasing
and exhibiting had resumed last weekend.

However, industry sources were apprehensive that the blast on Monday,
the allegations by the producers and Fefka and the objections aired
by others were now threatening to start another turbulent phase in
the industry. "I don't know how the producers' association and Fefka
could so quickly come to the conclusion that Macta was behind the
blast," said a producer. The Macta Federation has been agitating
against the refusal of jobs to its members and this had led to
stalling of shooting in more than one location earlier.

Shafir Seit, production controller of movie Athmakatha, on the sets
of which the blast took place, said he had reason to suspect Macta
Federation with respect to the blast. He said there was a scuffle on
the sets of the same movie when some Macta members came there with
demand for jobs two weeks ago. B Unnikrishnan, general secretary of
the Fefka, also expressed similar opinion.

But director Vinayan called for a detailed investigation into the
blast, saying Fefka and the producers' association were in the habit
of blaming his outfit.

The story is very good indeed. How do you make money from shirts
which lose color when you wash them?
However the photography looks a bit grainy and washed out ,
compare it with the sharp colors of Housefull. Some of the background
score , piano music at sad times is just awful. Much better to use
Indian instruments during emotional scenes. Cant believe an Indian
girl can swear so much.

Chennai - Taking a plunge into politics, popular south Indian actress
Khushboo on Thursday joined the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu weeks after
she won a four-year long legal battle over her controversial remarks
on pre-marital sex.

Marking her entry into the party, Khushboo enrolled herself as a
primary member in the presence of Chief Minister and DMK patriarch M
Karunanidhi at party headquarters here.

Earlier she had hinted of joining Congress as she said that was her
preferred party, however, the 39-year old actress in a surprise move
said has decided to join the DMK.

"I never confirmed that I am going to join Congress. I said that I
was still thinking of which party to join and I think I have made the
right decision," Khushboo told reporters here today.

About her position in the party the actress said, "I think it depends
on my ruling party president. I will leave it to him as to what
position he wants to give me, what role he wants me to play."

When asked what could she bring to the table for DMK Khushboo said,
"I think I am going to work... I have already said as soon as I had
won the Supreme Court verdict that I want to work for the betterment
of women. That is going to be my main criteria. I have to work on
that," she said.

Prior to meeting Karunanidhi, Khushboo said she mulled for about two
years to join politics.

The Supreme Court had last month cleared Khushboo of 22 cases filed
against her for her remarks on pre-martial sex in an interview to a
magazine in 2005.

Khushboo is regarded as of one the finest actresses in south Indian
film industry, who has worked in more than 100 film and shared screen
space with superstars like Rajnikanth Kamal Hassan, Mammootty,
Mohanlal, Sathyaraj and Prabhu.

Greater Noida wedding today under media glare

Noida - When they decided to get married, surely Jayvindra Bainsala
and Manisha Bhati never imagined their wedding would become a
"national" event. Their marriage, scheduled for Saturday, has become
a media spectacle with electronic media crews descending on the
groom's village for live coverage of the event. The couple on Friday
was busy shuttling between TV studios that dot Noida's Film City.

Mediapersons gathered in full strength around the groom's residence
bringing the traffic to a standstill on GT Road. Keeping aside his
wedding preparations, the groom was busy giving sound bytes to TV
channels. The couple was taken to various studios under tight
security. The security has been provided to both the families as
well.

"It's like a dream come true for me. I always used to pray to god
that my marriage should be noticed in the locality. But now the whole
country will be watching the event," said 25-year-old Jayvindra.

Jayvindra's relatives have already reached the village. "I got up at
5 am. By 7 am, mediapersons started pouring in. It was a tough task
to entertain each and every journalist by offering him/her tea and
breakfast. But I am thankful to the media for supporting us right
from the beginning," said Jagwati Bainsala, Jayvindra's mother.

"We never thought the marriage will take place in front of so many TV
cameras. There were reports of the marriage in electronic and print
media. The circumstances have ensured this hype and we feel like we
are celebrities," said Nekram Bainsala, the father of the groom.

Meanwhile, the controversy over marriage between nearby villages has
somewhat ebbed. "We will stick to the plan. We have decided to hold
ghurchari rasam at a short distance from here on the main GT Road
before proceeding to the bride's house on Saturday. The panchayat has
not contacted us so far. However, we were told that invitees from
Bhati gotra have decided not to attend the ceremony," Jayvindra said.

It may be noted that Nekram had fixed his son's marriage with Manisha
of Bishnuli village near Badalpur. The panchayat declared the
marriage illegal since Bhati girls are treated like sisters by
residents of adjacent Chithara village, though they might belong to
two different gotras.

about an episode of South Park showing the Prophet Mohammed wearing a
bear suit, one Seattle cartoonist, who calls laughter her form of
"prayer," is asking artists all over the world to create depictions of
Mohammed on May 20, then submit the images to a Facebook page she set
up.

Speaking on a Seattle radio show on Friday, cartoonist Molly Norris
said she announced her idea as a way of countering the fear exhibited
by Comedy Central in censoring episode 201 of South Park.

Yeah, but here are two facts as I've surmised: first, the ISPs almost
don't care what you do as long as its not hacking that ISP. The subscriber
money is more important than good netiquette. Second, I'm sure Maharaj is
running his own ISP and pays for a newsfeed (or gets his newsfeed by some
other arrangement) so he is boss; once your flow goes out, almost no ISPs
elsewhere really care. So that is how he gets away with it. And, if you
want to go further, then you'd have to launch litigation and that will
cost you nothing less than 4-6 figures in legal fees. The other approach
is to hack his boxes and you have to know how to do it, not get caught,
and have a lot of persistence. I know some details about this, but won't
post them openly here.

There is a very large amount of this going on, already, even by pretty
innocent people. Just look on alt.politics.economics, for example. NG
copy-paste doesn't hurt the mainstream media that much because 99% of
internet traffic is http, and not nntp. Music sharing is probably ftp, and
the music industry has been suing the asses off these guys, too. And,
putting copy protections on, getting people pissed, too.

I was having trouble with a guy on acc. Calling me names and then one day
he started putting _my_ name in the "from" field in the headers. That is
use of my name without my permission, fraud, and more. I sent an abuse
complaint both by email and physical letter. So far, no response. I could
hire a lawyer and then I'd get an answer. But, I've heard of this before.
Again, its not what is right or wrong, but if you have enough money to
_buy_ your "freedom" to do something. If this guy on acc continued to give
me the trouble, then I'd be looking for a lawyer.

Demagogery, demonization and all those "Adolf Hitler" techniques you can
find in books that deal with the practical psychology of manipulation,
cult formation, and defects in human thinking, and other psychologies. If
you take ignorant-superstitious-gulible-unsophisticated people (such as
are found almost everywhere, even on NGs) and play your cards right, you
will get at least some following, sooner or later. Maybe even more, faster
in 3rd world places.

I was mildly offended with his "Hindu supremacy" post some time back, but
when he sellectively attacked Christian priest sex abuse and totally

then I knew that this guy was a nut-case. Then, I did a Google search on
"Maharaj FAQ" and found several. The descriptions were accurate. So, we
have, basically, an enemy of the people, and an enemy of the public good.

reinforce "our side" of the conflict.
