VFX business in India is run like sweat shop.

Prime Focus is one such place.

1. People work 17-20 hrs a day

2. No weekends

3. 95% of the companies do roto, paint and stereo paint
work, where there is no chance of growth.

4. Some companies offer Rs. 5000 for beginners as salary.
Some don't, they exploit by offering internship for
desperate artists.

5. Super high levels of micro management.

6. Most of the artists I came across are sleep deprived

Used to work with a good VFX company which went bankrupt,
and now I am finding hard to stay in this industry with
such hazardous working condition.

HOW PROFANE IS PROFANE?

Editorial
The Pioneer
http://www.dailypioneer.com
Friday, February 20, 2015

Censor chief must discard antediluvian ideas

Central Board of Film Certification Chairperson Pahlaj
Nihalani has reportedly compiled a list of 28 'profane'
words in English and Hindi that he wants banned from use
in films. His defence is that abusive language in films
adversely impacts millions of people, especially
children, who watch cinema, and that the malicious
influence percolates into their day-to-day behaviour.

While there is no running away from the fact that films
are a major medium of influence, the bright idea to ban
the 28 words Mr Nihalani has short-listed in his profound
wisdom, beats reason. For one, what about the hundreds of
other cuss words that float around in those two
languages? Is it okay to use them but not the listed
ones? Moreover, what is the guarantee that more words
will not be added to the list as time goes by? There may
even come a day when the Censor Board decides to strike
down cuss words retrospectively - which means that films
released with proper certification months ago could be
summoned on the Censor Board surgeon's table for deletion
of words that were lately considered to be offensive! The
job of the Censor Board is to certify films based on
their content.

If it believes that a particular film has offensive
language that is revolting, it has the option to study
the profane words in the overall context of the film, the
character that mouths them, and the film's theme. If it
believes the cuss language fit into the larger context,
it must let the words go unedited, though it can decide
to give a 'A' or a 'U/A' certification to filter the age
of audience that gets to watch such films.

It is also possible that film-makers may use such
language for the sake of 'value-addition' and without any
real justification of the plot or characters. Here the
Board can ask the film-maker to delete the offensive
words. This has happened before. But it simply makes no
sense to ban words across the board. Being a film-maker,
Mr Nihalani ought to realise the importance of creative
freedom in the film industry. Hopefully, better sense
will prevail.

Meanwhile, it is wrong to read into the Censor Board
chief's proactiveness an extension of the Union
Government's alleged desire to cleanse society in a
cultural sense. Unfortunately, this is what critics of
the Narendra Modi regime have begun doing. They forget
that quite a few members of the Censor Board, considered
close to the regime or at least its larger ideology, have
spoken out against Mr Nihalani's decision.

There is also no indication that the Union Ministry of
Information and Broadcasting is backing the Censor Board
Chairperson's diktat. While Mr Nihalani's concerns are
appreciable, it must be left to the individual and the
collective wisdom of the film fraternity to draw the red
line between what is essential in the cinematic sense and
what is avoidable profanity. He must trust his co-
professionals in the industry.

COPS FOCUS ON FILM WORLD
BUT HAVE NO SOLID PROOF

By V. R. Jayaraj
The Pioneer

Friday, February 13, 2015

Kochi - The Kochi Police believe that certain leading
personalities of the new generation Malayalam film world
could have had connections with the drug racket based at
the luxury apartment in the city from where cocaine was
seized on January 31 but they are virtually unable to
proceed in the probe in this direction in the absence of
concrete evidences.

Though the police have already examined the CCTV
footages taken from the apartment complex thoroughly,
they have not got clues or evidences that are strong
enough to question the film personalities whom they
suspect to have links with the sales and use of drugs
based at the apartment in Kadavanthra in the city.

Those arrested from the flat for possessing and using
cocaine have admitted to the police that several film
personalities had visited the flat where 'smoke parties'
were being held but the investigators are unable to
proceed in this direction as they have not yet got
details of these people from the accused.

New Delhi - At this rate, Beep will also be banned in
Indian cinema theatres in the near future.

A new list of English and Hindi cuss words issued by the
Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) covers most of
the popular, but unspoken, unheard, abuses. However, it
also includes some interesting ones like 'Haramzada'
which seems to be popular even among some of our
politicians.

While we cannot reproduce the list here for obvious
reasons, we can tell that it has all the usual suspects
and some unusual ones. Some words which are perfectly
parliamentary, but have 'dual uses' have also been
included in the list. So, you cannot use the word
'Patana' in a Hindi movie, or the word screw in an
English one.

ONE SHOW, MANY SHADES

AIB has fuelled the free speech debate again

Actor Aamir Khan's critical comments on comedy group
All India Bakchod's controversial roast have once again
fired the free speech debate. The show, that featured
film industry heavyweights and some of the country's
best known comics, was held in December 2014 but ran
into trouble after it was uploaded to YouTube in January
and made available to a wider audience. Several
organisations complained against the show for being rude
and offensive. The Maharashtra Government got involved
and even Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had to make a
statement.

WHO IS PROPHET MUHAMMAD, MAY PEACE AND BLESSINGS BE UPON HIM?

He is the one who defended the rights of all humanity 1400 years ago
He defended men's, women's and children rights
He commanded and fostered the love between relatives and neighbors
He established a coexistence relationship between Muslims and Non-Muslims
He organized the relationship between the members of the family putting duties on sons and daughters towards the parents
He fought injustice, called for justice, love, unity and cooperation for the good.
He called for helping the needy, visiting the patients, love and exchanging advises between people.
He prohibited (by orders from God) bad manners such as stealing, lying, torturing and murdering.
He is the one who changed our lives and manners to be better.
A Muslim doesn't steal
A Muslim doesn't lie
A Muslim doesn't drink alcohol.
A Muslim doesn't commit adultery
A Muslim doesn't cheat
A Muslim doesn't kill innocent people
A Muslim doesn't harm his neighbors
A Muslim obeys his parents and helps them
A Muslim is kind to young and elderly people, to women and to weak people.
A Muslim doesn't torture humans or even animals, and does not harm trees
A Muslim loves his wife and takes care of his children and show mercy towards them until the last day of his life.
A Muslim's relationship towards his children never stops even when they become adults
He is Muhammad (PBUH)
Did you know why all Muslims love Muhammad (PBUH)?
Did you know what does Muhammad mean for Muslims?
Every Muslim loves Muhammad (peace be upon him) more than himself and more than everything in his life.
Before judging a Muslim be fair and:
1-Listen to this person, and watch his doings.
2-Compare his ideas and teachings with what is Islam and Prophet Mohammad PBUH ordered.
3-If you think that his thoughts are typical to that of Islam and
Prophet Mohammad PBUH, and then compare them with his doings; is he
applying these teachings?
4-If he is applying these teachings and sayings, so for sure represents
Islam, if not then he calls himself a Muslim but doesn't represent
Islam.
Mohammed Ansan and far from extremism and lying which has marketed
We as Muslims we publish a genuine people's love you oh Lord weiamhamd

Than you

I think you're just being too hard on Madhuri. Why don't you realise the fact that Madhuri always overshadows her male co-stars in most of her movies? She stole the thunder from Anil Kapoor in Khel and Beta and again from Anil's brother (newcomer Sanjay Kapoor) in Raja. All you think about Madhuri is shaking her hips. She's a fine actress and Bollywood should be proud to get a gem like her.

i think madhuri should have stayed away from movies like rajkumar, prem granth and yaraana. but i'm glad that atleast madhuri attempted a movie like mrityudand which showed her true potential. i also liked her avenging angel avatar in anjaam. it was quite rare for an actress in the 1990s to attempt a role like this but madhuri gave it a shot and it was worth it. however, i felt there was too much blood and gore which didn't go down well with the audience and the movie flopped.

As mature adults, we should STOP comparing Sridevi with Madhuri. Both are brilliant actresses. Even both of them confessed that they are not rivals. And even if there's a rivalry between them, it's healthy. I think both Sridevi and Madhuri had the exceptional merit of carrying a film on their own shoulders. They never let themselves to be overshadowed by their heroes. They both were great dancers. Of course, as an individual, both Sridevi and Madhuri are different. I guess, Juhi Chawla can't dance like Sridevi or Madhuri but she's a wonderful actress. If Sridevi can pull off a Charlie Chaplin to perfection in Mr. India then Madhuri can brilliantly pull off the disguise of a fat, old woman in Raja. None is lesser than the other. Both of them are perfect in their own ways. Some people say that Sridevi enjoyed more success than Madhuri. This might be true due to the fact that Sridevi didn't have any tough contender in her time apart from Meenakshi Seshadri who was not even a regular at movies at that point of time. While Madhuri had a series of contenders like Juhi, Manisha Koirala, Kajol and even Karisma Kapoor at her time. But even then, Madhuri held herself well in movies that she did. I think we should stop being childish by pitting Madhuri against Sridevi. Both of them are gems!

CENSOR BOARD AND ITS UNCENSORED LEELAS

By Anish Gupta; Tamal Dasgupta
Op-Ed
The Pioneer
http://www.dailypioneer.com
Saturday, January 31, 2015

Censorship is a trespass against any free society and is
perhaps an insult to any mature adult who is capable of
voting. It has been a long-held practice of the CBFC to
allow a film which is derogatory for Hindus but disallow
anything where an objection is raised by some minority
groups

Many developed countries do not have a mechanism for film
censorship though they have a system of certification
which is quite different from censorship. When we do not
have censorship in books, music, media, and we rightly
condemn the Press censorship that was imposed in India
during Emergency, it escapes simple reasoning why the
same logic should not be extended to film censorship.

Moreover, as we all know, film censorship was introduced
by the British to keep tabs on our film industry so that
it refrained from bringing sedition to celluloid.
Censorship is a trespass against any free society and is
perhaps an insult to any mature adult who is capable of
voting. The recent resignation of the chairperson and
some other members of CBFC raised the issues of the
manipulative system of appointment and Government
interference in what is a supposedly autonomous body.
