Poverty Poverty !
It is amusing to know that indians are just talking and crying about
poverty shown in the movie and how they were degraded by west. As far
as I remember, poverty scenes were not more than 5 or 7. The whole
movie was based on Child abuse, Child labor, Sexual molestation, sale
of under age girls, corrupt Gov officials etc. Looks like Indians,
have no clue that all the above acts are considered shameless crimes
in the west and are actually more derogatory than poverty. In India
all the above crimes are celebrated and look after. ha ha
Are indians any better than Pakistanis? I guess not. Is India ready to
become a civilized world? not in even next 100 years.

This recent exchange of jay stevens, aka dr. jai etc. is the last in a
long line to create a false image.

He is not indian, he is 100 percent american and of a european
heritage.

He speaks no language of india but english and refuses to accept a call
from a real indian to protect his false image.

He adopted the "dr." and indian sounding name to attract traffic to his
astrology business.

He is a white bigot.

That he is a white bigot or that he is a brown christian?

I don't like the way everyone goes on crediting this song to Lata. It
is, first and foremost, C Ramchandra's song.
It was his idea to present a song. He roped in Kavi Pradeep, who wrote
something like 120 verses. Anna (= CR) abridged them to 4, set them to
tune and asked Asha to sing it. Asha underwent umpteen rehearsals.
When Lata got to know that this would be presented before Pandit
Nehru, she pestered Asha to ask CR to allow her to sing too. Then she
gradually egged out Asha (by virtually ordering her to tell Ram that
she is not well and cannot sing) and sang the song herself, while
otherwise trashing CR when it came to film songs.
And now she goes about repeating how she sang and Pt Nehru wept.

Thanks. Collections are huge.

I never knew about Shantaram's Parchhaainyaan until few years back
listen to its songs from one website.

A link from another website is http://www.musicplug.in/songs.php?movieid=6665

Some from You Tube are

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SztDRqJblDw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CboSul1M1g4&feature

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw5VVbGcsN0&feature

Following perhaps not.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NFQeq0Z-tQ&feature

In the first song it looks Sandhya but for the second I am not sure.
Shantaram could have put shirt on in the second.

If you like/understand Marathi, you should check out the "ahonkan"

Champs in Marathi. The kids are way way way beyond amazing. All round
nice collection.

Slumdog Millionaire, has used the controversial chartbuster Choli ke

the mood of the movie.

"The song fitted the mood of the film. It represents that period in
the early 1990s. The colour, the swirl and the frenetic pace - so I've

though in a totally re-worked form," said Rahman.

Taliban restrictions and mistreatment of women include the:
Apart from the above restrictions on women, the Taliban has:

- Banned listening to music, not only for women but men as well.

- Banned the watching of movies, television and videos, for everyone.

1- Complete ban on women's work outside the home, which also applies
to female teachers, engineers and most professionals. Only a few
female doctors and nurses are allowed to work in some hospitals in
Kabul.

2- Complete ban on women's activity outside the home unless
accompanied by a mahram (close male relative such as a father, brother
or husband).

3- Ban on women dealing with male shopkeepers.

4- Ban on women being treated by male doctors.

5- Ban on women studying at schools, universities or any other
educational institution. (Taliban have converted girls' schools into
religious seminaries.)

6- Requirement that women wear a long veil (Burqa), which covers them
from head to toe.

7- Whipping, beating and verbal abuse of women not clothed in
accordance with Taliban rules, or of women unaccompanied by a mahram.

8- Whipping of women in public for having non-covered ankles.

9- Public stoning of women accused of having sex outside marriage. (A
number of lovers are stoned to death under this rule).

10- Ban on the use of cosmetics. (Many women with painted nails have
had fingers cut off).

11- Ban on women talking or shaking hands with non-mahram males.

12- Ban on women laughing loudly. (No stranger should hear a woman's
voice).

13- Ban on women wearing high heel shoes, which would produce sound

14- Ban on women riding in a taxi without a mahram.

15- Ban on women's presence in radio, television or public gatherings
of any kind.

16- Ban on women playing sports or entering a sport center or club.

17- Ban on women riding bicycles or motorcycles, even with their

18- Ban on women's wearing brightly colored clothes. In Taliban terms,
these are "sexually attracting colors."

19- Ban on women gathering for festive occasions such as the Eids, or
for any recreational purpose.

20- Ban on women washing clothes next to rivers or in a public place.

21- Modification of all place names including the word "women." For
example, "women's garden" has been renamed "spring garden".

22- Ban on women appearing on the balconies of their apartments or
houses.

23- Compulsory painting of all windows, so women can not be seen from
outside their homes.

24- Ban on male tailors taking women's measurements or sewing women's
clothes.

25- Ban on female public baths.

26- Ban on males and females traveling on the same bus. Public buses
have now been designated "males only" (or "females only").

27- Ban on flared (wide) pant-legs, even under a burqa.

28- Ban on the photographing or filming of women.

29- Ban on women's pictures printed in newspapers and books, or hung
on the walls of houses and shops.

Apart from the above restrictions on women, the Taliban has:

- Banned listening to music, not only for women but men as well.

- Banned the watching of movies, television and videos, for everyone.

- Banned celebrating the traditional new year (Nowroz) on March 21.
The Taliban has proclaimed the holiday un-Islamic.

- Disavowed Labor Day (May 1st), because it is deemed a "communist"
holiday.

- Ordered that all people with non-Islamic names change them to
Islamic ones.

- Forced haircuts upon Afghan youth.

- Ordered that men wear Islamic clothes and a cap.

- Ordered that men not shave or trim their beards, which should grow
long enough to protrude from a fist clasped at the point of the chin.

- Ordered that all people attend prayers in mosques five times daily.

- Banned the keeping of pigeons and playing with the birds, describing
it as un-Islamic. The violators will be imprisoned and the birds shall
be killed. The kite flying has also been stopped.

- Ordered all onlookers, while encouraging the sportsmen, to chant
Allah-o-Akbar (God is great) and refrain from clapping.

- Ban on certain games including kite flying which is "un-Islamic"
according to Taliban.

- Anyone who carries objectionable literature will be executed.

- Anyone who converts from Islam to any other religion will be
executed.

- All boy students must wear turbans. They say "No turban, no
education".

- Non-Muslim minorities must distinct badge or stitch a yellow cloth
onto their dress to be differentiated from the majority Muslim
population. Just like what did Nazis with Jews.

- Banned the use of the internet by both ordinary Afghans and
foreigners.

And so on...

But Dr. Maharaj, the central character in the film
carries the name Jamal Malik, which is a Muslim
name. So at best you can say it defames Indians,
not only Hindus.

Incidentally, the condition of the dwellers in Dharavi
where this movie was shot is far better than of some
living in rural areas of India and subject to the same
feudal exploitation as in British times. Sad to say,
the movie is not far from the reality.

Although I do not intend to see this movie, hope
it sends a kick in the ass to the Indian Government,
who have been promising for the last 60 years
"good times just around the corner".

Forget the populist movie. India's main problem is that its feral
culture of an entire population devoted to scavenging a living has to
change now that real economic advancement has finally arrived. In other
words, no one wants to watch someone who earns $75,000/yr dicker with
someone over the final cost of a $3.00 ice cream cone. Don't laugh,
I've seen this happen. It's middle-class living with a serf-class
mindset.

Yes! You are right. This is a message to Indian politicians who always
bring promises during the election time. After elections, they
completely vanish and forget their promises!

Indian poverty is always marketable in the Christian west. India did
not change much from the days of British Raj.

Yes! You are right. This is a message to Indian politicians who always
bring promises during the election time. After elections, they
completely vanish and forget their promises!
------------------------------------
that's the way i see it too. if anybody needs to feel embarrassed, it would
have to be indian politicians, specially the congressis. but that would be
hoping against the hope. it serves the intersts of the politicians just
right if the indian people were to fault the moviemakers for their
embarrassment. actually, the movie should serve the mis-embarrassed indians
to shake their politiicans.
---------------------------------
--------------------------------------

Indian poverty is always marketable in the Christian west.
-----------------------------------------------
yes. it helps the west feel good about itself, not realizing that they are
rich because in big part their forebears looted the 3rd world. it is amazing
that a small resourceless netherland can have a wealth that exceeds resource
rich indonesia's. and that is despite the fact that hitler had bombed
holland to a pulp.
-----------------------------------

India did
not change much from the days of British Raj.

The real question is the reality of which the movie speaks which is in
the hands of all indians. It is time to stop excusing the failure of
all indians for the crushing proverty and exploitment and bigotry and
violation of basic human rights on the historical actions of others.

It's gold, baby.

That's the strangest suicide note I've ever read. How are
you going to make that dot -- with a 38 or a 357?

"It's gold, baby."

This recent exchange of jay stevens, aka dr. jai etc. is the last in a
long line to create a false image.

He is not indian, he is 100 percent american and of a european heritage.

He speaks no language of india but english and refuses to accept a call
from a real indian to protect his false image.

He adopted the "dr." and indian sounding name to attract traffic to his
astrology business.

He is a white bigot.

"It's gold, baby."

This recent exchange of jay stevens, aka dr. jai etc. is the last in a
long line to create a false image.

He is not indian, he is 100 percent american and of a european
heritage.

He speaks no language of india but english and refuses to accept a call
from a real indian to protect his false image.

He adopted the "dr." and indian sounding name to attract traffic to his
astrology business.

He is a white bigot.

" strange thing to say for a brown kirastanista, no?"

That he is a white bigot or that he is a brown christian?

Sang what?

What "wole country" are you talking about, Jay?

And who the fuck is "Lata ji"?
Lata Mangeshkar ?

Looks like just another untalented frog throated dot head that couldn't
carry a tune in a rickshaw to me.

it is amazing the kirastani converts should take umbrage on this.
madrasis are those who live in the madras province of colonial time - a time
which the converts love very much any way, having sided with the brits
against the hindu freedom fighters.

analyst41 is not a christian. he is a tamil non brahmin with
deep sympathies to Srilankan tamil struggle. Now that LTTE
terrorists are close to being shipped on a 1 way ticket to
hell, this guy has lost his marbles and is blaming everyone
except the useless LTTE.

Jay stevens, aka dr. jai etc. remembers it only from his home in america,
where he is a lifelong resident of european heritage. That is if he
knows of it outside what he reads on the internet about it.

He is not an indian, only an adult convert to hinduism.

He speaks no language of india but english and refuses a call from a

Well, you know how it is in Mollywood: films and songs
(are passed off as Hindi songs even though they) contain
non-Hindi words. But the song was as captivating for me
then as it is now because several extended family members
and friends of mine have fallen in battle as a result of
invasions by both China and Pakistan.

What a great laugh this is below. Jay stevens, aka dr. jai responds to
having been exposed. So what is his response, to once again
pretend to be
indian when he is 100 prcent american with a european heritage. He is
an adult convert to hinduism. He speaks no indian language but english
and refuses to take a call from a real indian knowing his lie would be
instantly known. His "dr." and indian sounding name were invented to
attract people to his astrology business.

He has left many foot prints on the internet in the many years he has
beenposting and can not keep his lies straight and avoid them revealing
his false invented image. Most real indians know he is a fraud because
it is easy to see his lies and contridictions. Read how he slips into
the discussion the below to make it seem he is indian. what it really is
an attempt to show why he did not know the lyrics of the song contained
meaning he was ignorant of and now presents an excuse.

"Well, you know how it is in Mollywood: films and songs (are passed off
as Hindi songs even though they) contain non-Hindi words. But the song
was as captivating for me then as it is now because several extended
