Jay Stevens who calls himself Jai Maharaj and
adorns his false name with a false title pretends
to engage himself for the Hindu community
while all he cares for is the cash he can suck out
of his Hindu clientele whom he considers particularly
prone to superstition, prime material to be ground
in his astrological mill. He found the (almost) perfect
scheme of turning the misery of other people into
money. And he feels that his pseudo-engagement
gives him the right to ruin sci.lang. Jay Stevens
aka Dr. Jai Maharaj is a capital sociopath, a cynic
and a cancer combined.

Splashes from Hindu Mahasagar -- 6 - Fascinating Hindu History

Facinating Hindu History

Pagan religions all over the world have used icons or symbols to
represent abstract and intangible objects. The fanciful gallery of
mythological deities in Biblical stories, Arabian Nights, and The
Canterbury Tales are collections of human imagination. Blowing of
strong wind would normally be indicated through waving trees, flying
of lighter objects and rising of dust. Similarly super human power of
gods and goddesses has been suggested through four arms, heads, and
other such embellishments. In this connection Hindu history has much
more to offer to the world as a piece of art and literature.

One of the most remarkable features of Hindu history is that unlike
other faiths, it is not confined to any area and time, but historical
characters have imprints left over the entire universe. There are
several descriptions related to inter-planetary movements of not only
of gods and goddesses, but also of sages and mortal beings. The gods,
goddesses and many of the sages are timeless and ever lasting. They
appear and disappear, are clad in glittering costumes, are powerful
and resourceful to grant boons and can inflict destruction through
curse as well. Every God possesses weapons to destroy the evil, as
well as flowers to shower blessings.

Hindus laid greater importance on the preservation of environment
also. Animals and useful plants such as Peepal, Beil, Tulsi, and
Banyan were associated with various gods and goddesses; to be loved,
nurtured, and even worshiped. Sources of water, mountains and other
elements of nature are also respected as gods and goddesses. Animals
were also included in history thereby recognizing their right to co-
exist with others. Even Pig and snakes, hated in other faiths find a
respectable place in Hindu history, since no one is under rated. Many
animals are associated with Gods as carriers. Some animals were given
the status of Gods and goddesses to impress that Omnipresence of the
Almighty.

Every religion has drawn its own concept of heaven and hell that are
comparable to the prevailing of the religion originated. Islamic
Heaven is cool, shady and has plenty of water sources fruit grow and
nymphs are on duty to serve the believers. There Hell is always
burning hot with lot many apparatus of torture in motion to punish
the non believers and worshipers of idols. On the contrary Biblical
Heaven has Sun shine, and their hell is full of Ice. All the
religions have placed heaven above and Hell below. The administration
of heavenly sites is in the hands of Devas, Angles, Nymphs, Hoors and
Apasras who are well versed in the art of dressing up, dancing and
music. Like wise in Hinduism pious people reside in Swarga and
sinners in Narka irresective of their being believers or non-
believers. The only difference is that Narka residents have chances
of relocating themselves in Swarga with good deeds done when they are
reborn. Propagators of religion not believing in re-birth have no
option of relocating even if they atoned later and desired to do some
good.

Though Hindus believe in one God, but view the same God in three
different modes while in action and that is known as the Trinity of
Supreme God:

Brahm is the Creator God. He is traditionally depicted with four
heads, faces and arms. Each head recites one of the four Vedas. The
hands hold a water-pot used in creating life, a string of rosary
beads used to keep track of the Universe's time, the text of the
Vedas, and a lotus flower. He is the husband of goddess Saraswati.
His mount is Hamsa (Swan). Brahm only occasionally interferes in the
affairs of the gods, and even more rarely in mortal affairs. He is
generally painted old, probably to signify that creativity, wisdom,
and experience without resources and power is like an old and
helpless person.

Vishnu is known as preserver. He is usually depicted as a four-armed
humanoid with blue skin, often sitting or resting on a lotus flower
or relaxing on Sheshnag bed with Lakshami (goddess of wealth) in
attendance, indicating a person possessing everything of ultimate
luxury. His mount is Garuda. He is identified with his Avatars
(Incarnations) to re-establish orderliness in the World.

Shiv is the destroyer. Shiv is represented as immersed in deep
meditation, on Mount Kailash. However, even though he represents
destruction, he is viewed as a positive force, the Destroyer of Evil.
His vahan (mount) is 'Nandi', the Bull. He is usually represented by
the symbol of Shiv ling. His consort is 'Parvati', a goddess who
comes in many different forms, one of whom is Kaali, the goddess of
death. As Nataraj Shiv is the Lord of the Dance, and also symbolizes
the dance of the Universe, with all its delicately balanced heavenly
bodies and natural laws which complement and balance each other. He
is also symbolized as doing his great dance of destruction, called
Taandava signifying praleya -- the doom's day, implying total
dissolution of the universe.

All the three reflections are in fact one God performing three
different functions of creation, preservation and finally destruction
same way as a human can be son to the parents, husband to the wife,
and parent of his children. All the three separate functions are
performed by the same person but the person is viewed differently by
his parents, wife and children. The concept of Trinity wraps in
itself the 'Theory of division of power' that was propounded by
Montesquieu of France, much later. Supreme God is personified into
the Trinity of Brahm Vishnu and Shiv. While Brahm, Vishnu and Shiv
function within their respective areas of creativity, preservation,
and destruction respectively and do not trespass or interfere in to
the field of each other's. They consult each other whenever there is
any crisis in the universe. Thus 'Government of the Universe'
reflects 'division of power' as well as 'interdependence' that
Montesquieu preached to the political thinkers of the west in
ninteenth century.

Hindu supreme Gods are not confined to any geopgraphical place and
period. They neither have any beginning or any ending. They are
universal.

What did Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh have before they had
Hinduism? Why not bring those back instead?

How about first proving that Euclid learnt his Elements from Hindus
and that Archimedes learned to measure density from Hindus? You can
start by showing that Hindus had a concept such as density.

Perhaps, if you can prove to them that Hindus had the Archimedean
screw before Archimedes did.

Now you might have an insight there. As jay stevens, aka dr. jai etc.
continues to cuddle up to the american christian right he could be
leaving his options open to find a source of support? Since his
astrology business bit the dust he needs to find support somewhere.

We could find him converting once again any day now.

a good solution is a govt directive that would mandate clearing of
applications within a short reasonable time. the erring officer would then
have to give a clear explanation for his delay to a committee, which, if
unconvinced, can give the guy a hard time. this would also work in
eliminating the 3mc*2 forces from india.

Arabic flashcards land student in U.S. detention

By Jon Hurdle
Reuters
Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Philadelphia (Reuters) - Federal agents detained and interrogated a
U.S. college student at the Philadelphia airport simply because we
was carrying a set of English-Arabic flashcards, a lawsuit alleged on
Wednesday.

The American Civil Liberties Union said it filed the suit on behalf
Nicholas George, 22, a language student at Pomona College in
California who was held at Philadelphia International Airport for
nearly five hours in August 2009.

George, a U.S. citizen from the Philadelphia suburb of Wyncote, was
on his way back to college when airport security officers found him
carrying the flashcards, each of which had an English word on one
side and its Arabic equivalent on the other, the ACLU said.

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration questioned him, and a
TSA supervisor asked him how he felt about the September 11 attacks,
whether he knew "who did 9/11," and whether he knew what language
Osama bin Laden spoke, the ACLU said.

He was handcuffed and left in a locked cell for two hours before
being "abusively" interrogated by two FBI agents, but was never told
why he was being detained, the ACLU said.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. district court for the Eastern District of
Pennsylvania, charges that officers from the TSA, FBI and
Philadelphia police violated George's constitutional rights of free
speech and to be free from unreasonable seizure.

"As someone who travels by plane, I want TSA agents to do their job
to keep flights safe," George said in a statement. "But I don't
understand how locking me up and harassing me just because I was
carrying the flashcards made anybody safer."

Neither the federal agencies nor the Philadelphia police could be
reached for comment.

A devout Hindu wins bid for the right to be cremated

BBC Media Player v.2.18.13034.14207 (Video)

A devout Hindu has won his bid for the right to be cremated on a
traditional funeral pyre.

Mr Ghai was refused a cremation permit by Newcastle City Council in
2006.

Davender Ghai, 71, was seeking to overturn a 2006 Newcastle City
Council decision forbidding him from being cremated according to his
beliefs.

Mr Ghai said he had only wanted to clarify the law

Last year his challenge was dismissed by the High Court, but that
ruling has been overturned at the Court of Appeal.

Judges decided the pyre would be lawful after Mr Ghai said it could
include walls and a roof with an opening.

"Today's verdict has breathed new life into an old man's dreams"
Davender Ghai

In February 2006, the founder of the Anglo-Asian Friendship Society
(AAFS), from Gosforth, Newcastle, was refused a permit for a
cremation site in a remote part of Northumberland.

Newcastle City Council said the burning of human remains anywhere
outside a crematorium was prohibited under the 1902 Cremation Act.

The Ministry of Justice, which opposed the appeal case, had backed
the local authority's decision.

But the Court of Appeal judges accepted that Mr Ghai was willing to
be cremated within existing rules with his funeral pyre "enclosed in
a structure" and ruled that the Ministry of Justice definition of a
building was too narrow.

Delivering the verdict, Master of the Rolls, Lord Neuberger, who
headed the appeal panel, said: "Contrary to what everyone seems to
have assumed below, and I am not saying it is anyone's fault, it
seems to us that Mr Ghai's religious and personal beliefs as to how
his remains should be cremated once he dies can be accommodated
within current cremation legislation."

Mr Ghai said the ruling had "breathed new life into an old man's
dreams".

He said: "I always maintained that I wanted to clarify the law, not
disobey or disrespect it.

"The Court of Appeal understood my request was consistent with both
the spirit and letter of the law and my only regret is that tax
payers' money would have been saved had that been recognised in 2006.

"My request was often misinterpreted, leading many to believe I
wanted a funeral pyre cremation in an open field, whereas I always
accepted that buildings and permanent structures would be
appropriate."

'Air quality'

He added: "All the time I had complete faith that justice would be
done. Now I can go in peace."

Newcastle City Council said it had refused permission for a
traditional "open-air" funeral pyre, whereas on appeal Mr Ghai had
agreed his beliefs could be satisfied within a building.

A spokesman said: "However, the judgment goes on to state that the
difficulties which may be thrown up by planning and public health
legislation, should an application be submitted, have not been
considered as part of this judgment.

"Furthermore, the method of burning associated with funeral pyres is
not covered by any regulations which currently only apply to
cremators powered by gas or electricity which are designed to
maintain environmental standards, in particular air quality.

"Following the judgment, all local authorities will await further
guidance from the Ministry of Justice as regards any proposed
regulations or legislation which may control the proposed manner of
cremation to ensure environmental standards and public health are
protected."

Gadkari leads BJP protest against rising prices

By IANS

A rally against price rise, organised by the main opposition BJP, has
caricatures of UPA leaders in the background, in New Delhi,
Wednesday. (AP)

http://www.expressbuzz.com/edition/story.aspx?Title=Gadkari+leads+BJP+protest+against+rising+prices&artid=JEPgCz8S7u8=&SectionID=b7ziAYMenjw=&MainSectionID=b7ziAYMenjw=&SectionName=pWehHe7IsSU=&SEO=>

The
message reads: Mehangayi kaa haath 'The hand of inflation'.

Indraprasth aka New Delhi - In his first show of strength in the
capital after he became president of the Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP), Nitin Gadkari Wednesday led a demonstration here to protest
against the rise in food prices.

Hundreds of party supporters joined the protest at Jantar Mantar. The
BJP alleged that the government's "wrong" economic policies were
responsible for spiralling prices of essential commodities.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj along with
Murli Manohar Joshi, Ananth Kumar and Vijay Goel were among other
prominent party leaders who joined the rally.

BJP supporters in large numbers carried party flags and posters
highlighting the government's alleged apathy towards the issue.

Amid cries like "Sugar is no longer sweet" they shouted slogans
against Prime Minster Manmohan Singh, United Progressive Alliance
(UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.
"Prices of everything are shooting up unabated. Ministers are
involved in this scam. The prime minister, Sonia and Pawar are
involved. We have to expose this," party general secretary Ananth
Kumar said in his address to the rally.

The protest, which comes as the government is planning a hike in
petrol prices, is part of the BJP's nationwide agitation against
price rise.

Gadkari is planning a three-tier protest against rising prices, at
block, district and state levels.

The party workers will march towards Parliament House with senior BJP
leaders likely to join them. The Delhi unit of the BJP is keen to
make the protest a success because the newly appointed BJP chief, who
was formally elected unopposed Tuesday, is participating in a rally
in the capital for the first time.

BJP's general secretary Vijay Goel said representatives of several
social organisations and residents' welfare associations joined the
rally.

"The Congress party government is synonymous with rising prices. Dal
chawal (food) is getting out of reach of the common man and the
government is sleeping over it. It is an incompetent government to
handle issues related to poor. The Congress hand is out to strangle
the aam aadmi," Goel said.

The rally also assumes importance because the Delhi unit of the BJP
is going to appoint its new chief -- a decision which the party top
brass has postponed till the national executive meeting.

Clinton fundraiser accused of kidnapping

Sant Chatwal, a fundraiser for Bill and Hillary Clinton, has been

The hotelier, who is a trustee of the William J Clinton Foundation,
is accused by several Indian businessmen of having them abducted by
police officers from a hotel launch party and "terrorised" into
signing statements that they would pay him more than £800,000.

The allegations emerged amid protests after Mr Chatwal was last month
awarded one of India's highest honours, the Padma Bhushan.

While his businesses have suffered several bankruptcies, Mr Chatwal
maintains a millionaire lifestyle and in 2006 oversaw one of the most
lavish weddings in recent history for his son Vikram Chatwal, an
actor who appeared in the Hollywood film Zoolander, and the model
Priya Sachdev.

Guests were flown to Mumbai from all over the world and then to
Udaipur, where they were hosted by the Maharaja at his palace and
entertained by dancing eunuchs. They were then flown to Delhi, where
they were joined by Bill Clinton.

Mr Chatwal opened the luxury Dream Hotel last year in Cochin, where
three of his alleged victims were suppliers.

In a series of complaints to India's Central Bureau of Investigation
and the National Human Rights Commission, they allege they were
"pulled from their beds" at the hotel in April last year after
attending its launch party as suppliers.

They claim they were bundled into police vehicles and warned by a
police chief that unless they paid the money to Mr Chatwal they would
be held incommunicado and subjected to treatment that "would be
unimaginable and would ruin the lives of all such people".

Mr Chatwal's lawyer, Mathew Kurian, denied their allegations, which
he said were political motivated. "There is no truth to their
allegations and there are no cases pending against Mr Chatwal. There
are only civil cases for the recovery of money and they are without
standing."

The government defended the award, saying Mr Chatwal had played a key
role in sealing a nuclear deal between India and the US.

Why is Pope Benedict like a Toyota?

By Father Tim
Irish Central
Wednesday, February 10, 2010

My friends:

As everybody knows by now, Toyota and their sticky gas pedals has
become an even stickier mess for the giant automaker.

The company -- at first -- tried to manage their recall nightmare
through the press, which, of course, was a complete disaster. They
were eaten alive. A one-minute TV interview with some poor soul whose
accelerator had stuck made a bigger impression on the public than
their forest of press releases.

That the problem existed at all was bad enough. Their attempts to
manage the intertwined, massive publicity problem made it look like
their brains were stuck, too.

Finally, whatever public relations or advertising company Toyota uses
grabbed the wheel before the whole company accelerated off a cliff.
They unleashed a barrage of ads and commercials that, while a bit
late in this game, will probably rescue the Toyota name.

It's happened before. A day or two after news reports about tampered
Tylenol hit the airwaves, the company slickly went on the offensive.
The message was the same:

1) You have always trusted us, and we have worked for decades to earn
your trust.

2) There's a problem. Here's exactly what we're doing about it. We
are not making any excuses, and we will not make any. This is our
problem.

3) There is nothing we will not do to solve the problem, and to again
make you a believer in us.

It worked for Tylenol. It worked when the great Irish-American
business visionary, Don Keough, took over Coca-Cola in the midst of
their mind-numbing replacement of Coke with "New Coke." It will
probably work for Toyota, too.

The Pope has a major problem, too: the Irish Catholic Church, which
is enmeshed in a child sex-abuse scandal and coverup that is a
monstrous nightmare -- and one entirely of its own making. And with
the recent but unsurprising news that "problem priests" may have been
transferred a step ahead of the law from Ireland to the United
States, the problem is growing. Fast.

The Pope and the Vatican have tried -- and sincerely tried -- to
manage the problem after years of hoping it would "just go away."
Benedict has repeatedly apologized for this terrible crime. He has
publicly addressed the issue with humility and empathy for the
abused. He has been contrite, and is not attempting to avoid the
problem. He has given the Dublin Archdiocese considerable authority
to rid itself of bishops named in government reports on the abuse. He
has met on many occasions, face-to-face, with abuse victims, who
have, almost to a one, found him to be sincere and deeply remorseful.

He knows the buck stops with him. Around Easter, we will hear his
words on the crisis and plans to deal with it in a specific pastoral
letter to the people of Ireland.

And what has been the general public reaction so far?

Well, let's be charitable and just say it has been negative, ranging
from the somewhat benign "too little, too late" to "rearranging the
deck chairs on the Titanic" to "nothing will ever make up for the
harm that has been done."

Like the customers of Toyota, Tylenol and Coke, many people's
judgments about the Church scandal and its repair are formed by what
they see in the media. Sadly, these sound bytes are usually created -
- almost manufactured -- by those who live more by ratings than the
often-cumbersome explanation that the truth deserves and requires.

I recall a recent interview with a high-ranking Vatican official that
received a great deal of coverage. Probably 95% of what was said
expressed shame for the scandal and compassion for its victims. But
then the poor Churchman gave the sharks what they wanted: He told the
interviewer that "most priests are good, decent people who faithfully
follow and live the Gospel."

Bullseye! The beast had been fed. "Despite child sex scandal, Vatican
claims 'priests are good'" roared the headlines repeated around the
world.

What will it take to get the message -- or any message -- across? We
can only hope that Divine Help will be enough. Otherwise, the next
"American Idol" may have to "brought to you by the good people of the
Catholic Church."

God bless you all!

Group calls for info on priests to be published

By Dionesis Tamondong

A support group for people who've been victims of clergy members are
calling on Archbishop Anthony Apuron to disclose information on
clerics they say allegedly abused children on Guam.

SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, urged the
Archdiocese of Agana to publish on its Web sites and newsletters the
names, locations, work histories and current status of priests
accused of abuse.

The Chicago-based group said it has been contacted by several alleged
victims of sexual abuse on Guam.

"They are looking for support in their community and accountability
from church leadership. Asking for complete transparency and starting
confidential support meetings is the logical first step," said SNAP
Southwest Regional Director Joelle Casteix in a news release.

Vice Speaker Benjamin Cruz in October revealed he had been a victim
of alleged sexual assault by a priest in Los Angeles as a boy. He
also said he knew of such alleged incidents on Guam because victims
have approached him.

Apuron had responded that the Catholic Church doesn't tolerate any
kind of sexual abuse.

Church officials couldn't be reached for comment yesterday as of 7
p.m.

Pakistan's World Of Illusions http://outlookindia.com/article.aspx?264218

Pakistan's penchant to live in a self-created world of illusions is
well-known to us. But what is surprising is that the US and the rest
of the world are unable to see through the games which Pakistani
political and military leaders have always played.

By B. Raman http://outlookindia.com/peoplefnl.aspx?pid=3932&author=B.+Raman

The leaders and large sections of the people of Pakistan tend to live
in a self-created world of illusions. They have always lived in such
a world ever since the birth of the country in 1947.

They teach their children in school that civilization was brought to
the sub-continent by Islam. They grow up not knowing the history of
the sub-continent before the advent of Islam

They have always believed that one Muslim is equal to two Hindus.
They teach their soldiers that Hindus cannot fight. They believed
that their alliance with the US and the US military equipment
supplied to them had made them invincible and that India would never
be able to defeat them. They invaded Kashmir in 1965 thinking that
Kashmir was theirs for the taking.

After a few days of fighting they realized that it was not. They
realised too that Hindus can fight--like hell. They found that all
the Patton tanks and other modern equipment given to them by the US
could not save them from the counter-attacks by the Indian Army. They
fled from battle at Khem Karan after abandoning their Pattons.

But, they teach their children and soldiers that they won the 1965
war and that they forced India to sue for peace.

They looked down with contempt upon the Muslims of the then East
Pakistan because most of them were descendents of converts from
Hinduism. They convinced themselves that like the Hindus, the Bengali
Muslims cannot fight.

They treated them like second class citizens of the country and
suppressed them thinking that the Bengalis will not rise against
their suppression.

They did and threw them out in 1971. The Bengali freedom-fighters and
the Indian Army fought hand in hand in putting an end to the
colonization of East Pakistan. Bangladesh was born. Over 90000 of the
officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army surrendered without a
fight when the Indian Army and the Bengali freedom-fighters entered
Dhaka. Zulfiquar Ali Bhutto came crawling to Shimla to get them
released.

They teach their children and soldiers that through his clever
diplomacy Bhutto forced Indira Gandhi to release the prisoners of
war.

When Gen.Zia-ul-Haq overthrew Bhutto in 1977 and assumed power, many
of their political leaders appealed frantically to the leaders of
India and Afghanistan to help them escape from the country. If the
authorities of India and Afghanistan had not helped them to escape to
Europe, they would have landed in the gallows as Bhutto did.

When they returned to Pakistan from political exile after the death
of Zia in 1988, they projected themselves as national heroes, who had
hoodwinked the Army, gone into political exile and kept up the fight
against the Army and for the return of democracy. They never spoke a
word about the help rendered by India and Afghanistan. If India and
Afghanistan had not helped, many of the political leaders of Pakistan
may not be alive today.

In 1989, the very same political leaders who owed their survival to
India colluded with their Army in sending a large number of
terrorists trained by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) into J&K.
They thought that Kashmir was ripe for picking. Twenty-one years
later, they are nowhere near the realization of their illusory
dreams.

In 1994, they created the Taliban and helped it to capture Kabul in
September 1996. It occupied large parts of Afghanistan with the help
of the ISI and the Pakistan Army. The Pakistanis thought that was the
end of the Indian influence in Afghanistan. They realized with a
shock that it was not.

Secular elements in Afghanistan, helped by India, Iran and Russia,
hit back at the Taliban and its ISI patrons and facilitated the
liberation of Afghanistan from the Taliban rule post-9/11. There was
an anti-Pakistan uprising in Kabul and many Pakistanis, who were
working for the Taliban in Kabul, were hunted down, caught, killed
and their dead bodies thrown into the gutters of Kabul by the local
population.

In 1999, the Pakistan Army under Gen.Pervez Musharraf occupied Indian
territory in the Kargil Heights by taking advantage of the withdrawal
of the Indian Army posts during winter. They had wild dreams of
"liberating" the Siachen Glacier and the Kargil area of J&K. The
Indian Army hit back and inflicted heavy casualties on the Pakistan
Army. The US insisted that the Pakistan Army should withdraw from the
territory occupied by it. Musharraf and after him, Mr.Nawaz Sharif,
the then Prime Minister, flew to Beijing and sought China's support
for their occupation. To their shock, China refused to support them.
M.Nawaz Sharif flew to Washington DC to plead with the US for a face-
saving formula so that they can withdraw without humiliation. The US
declined to provide any. They were forced to withdraw
unconditionally. They projected their Kargil humiliation to their
people and soldiers as a great military victory by awarding a large
number of gallantry medals to each other.

After the attack on the Indian Parliament in December,2001, India
mobilized its troops and moved them to the border. Unnerved by the
threat of war, Musharraf banned the terrorist organizations operating
against India, closed their offices and arrested their leaders. When
India withdrew the troops from the border, Musharraf claimed it as a
great victory for Pakistan. "We forced India to blink," he said. He
removed all the ban orders and allowed the terrorists to operate
again against India.

After the raid by the Pakistan Army Commandoes in the Lal Masjid of
Islamabad in July, 2007, the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) went on
the offensive against the Pakistani Armed Forces, the ISI and the
Police. Suicide acts of terrorism, commando style attacks and other
kinds of attacks were reported not only from the tribal areas, but
also from non-tribal areas, including Islamabad, the capital,
Rawalpindi, where the General Headquarters of the Army are located,
Lahore, Sargodha, Peshawar, Kohat and even Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
The TTP even raided the GHQ and occupied it for some hours -- the
only instance in the history of terrorism anywhere in the world where
a terrorist group had occupied the headquarters of the Army -- even
it be for a few hours. The TTP also attacked the offices of the ISI
and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the capital,
Rawalpindi, Lahore and Peshawar.

Unable to cope with the TTP offensive, they quietly allowed the USA's
Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to hunt for the TTP leaders through
its Drone (unmanned) planes. They allowed US ground forces personnel
to operate in different areas under the cover of employees of
Blackwater, a US security company, which works in close co-ordination
with the CIA.

The Pakistani leaders, who are adept in charades, enacted one more
and continue to enact it. They pretended to be opposed to the Drone
strikes and the operation of Blackwater in Pakistani territory. They
called in public for their stoppage, but allowed the US in private to
continue with them.

The TTP allegedly assassinated Mrs.Benazir Bhutto in Rawalpindi on
December 27,2007. They did not have the courage to investigate it
lest the TTP target President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister
Yousef Raza Gilani. They were also worried that a thorough
investigation might expose the involvement of some army officers in
the assassination. They ordered the Police not to investigate and
asked the UN to take over the responsibility for the investigation.
More than two years after her assassination, the Pakistani people do
not know who killed her. There has been no prosecution.

They found themselves unable to counter the Baloch freedom struggle,
which continues to pick up momentum. They were embarrassed by the
repeated successes of the Baloch freedom-fighters. Instead of
addressing the grievances of the Baloch people, they accused India of
helping the freedom-fighters. Before the elections of 2008, they had
promised the Baloch people that they would investigate and prosecute
the officers of the security forces who were responsible for the
murder of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, the legendary Baloch leader. They
have not carried out their promise after coming to power. The
security forces continue to kill more and more Baloch freedom
activists. Balochistan today resembles East Pakistan in 1970 before
the birth of Bangladesh.

They were unable to protect the Shias, who constitute about 20 per
cent of the population. Sunni extremists continue to kill Shias in
their hundreds all over Pakistan. They imposed an iron curtain in the
Kurram Agency of the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas (FATA),
which has been the scene of anti-Shia violence for over two years
now. The Shias allege that a genocide of the Shias has been going on
in Kurram without the world knowing about it. The Army has no time or
inclination to protect the Shias.

When the George Bush Administration asked its famous question "are
you with us or against us" after 9/11, Musharraf lost his nerve and
did whatever the US wanted him to do. He placed the bases of the
Pakistan Air Force in Balochistan at the disposal of the US for use
against the Taliban and Al Qaeda. He rounded up a number of Pakistani
citizens, including two retired nuclear scientists, and handed them
over to the US agencies for interrogation in return for cash payment.
Musharraf had mentioned in the first edition of his book as to how
the CIA was paying for every person handed over by the ISI to the US
agencies. When his admission caused embarrassment to the CIA he
deleted this admission from the subsequent editions. His troubles
with Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhury, which ultimately led
to his humiliating exit from power, started when the Chief Justice
began looking into the cases of a large number of missing persons,
who had been allegedly rounded up by the ISI and "sold" to the CIA
for money. A large number of innocent Pakistanis and Arabs were
branded by the ISI as Al Qaeda suspects and thus "sold" to the CIA.
Musharraf allowed the US intelligence agencies to operate all over
Pakistan in search of Al Qaeda leaders.

At the same time, he quietly allowed the Afghan Taliban leadership to
set up its rear base in the Quetta area of Balochistan and Osama bin
Laden, Ayman Al-Zawahiri and other operatives of Al Qaeda to operate
from the North Waziristan area of FATA. When the Bush Administration
got preoccupied with Iraq from 2003 and diverted its attention from
Afghanistan, the Pakistan army took advantage of it for relaxing its
supposed hunt for Al Qaeda and for retraining the Afghan Taliban and
helping it to re-launch its offensive in Afghanistan.

Till 9/11, all major terrorist acts in different parts of the world
by Al Qaeda and its associates were planned and orchestrated from
Afghan territory under the control of the Afghan Taliban. Since 9/11,
all such acts are being planned and orchestrated from Pakistani
territory in the FATA. Every terrorist act unearthed in the UK has
had a Pakistani hand in it. The planned terrorist strike in
Copenhagen by the LET's Chicago cell and the 313 Brigade of Ilyas
Kashmiri was being orchestrated from Pakistan before the FBI got
scent of it and quashed it. The brutal murder of seven CIA officers
and an officer of the Jordanian intelligence in Afghan territory was
carried out by the TTP from Pakistani territory. The planned
terrorist strikes in Germany by associates of the Islamic Jihad Union
were being orchestrated from the FATA. The terrorist attacks in
China's Xinjiang province before the Beijing Olympics of August 2008,
including an abortive attempt to blow up a plane, were orchestrated
from the FATA. Acts of terrorism in Uzbekistan and in the Chechnya
and Dagestan areas of Russia are planned and guided from the FATA.
Even Teheran alleges that the acts of terrorism in its territory by
the so-called Jundullah are being carried out from Pakistani
territory in Balochistan.

Before 9/11, only India was the victim of acts of terrorism mounted
from Pakistani territory. After 9/11, the whole world has become the
target of Pakistan-based terrorists. The world's attention is on
Pakistan because it has become the GHQ of global jihadi terrorism.
But the Pakistani political and military leaders live in such an
unbelievable world of illusions that they have convinced themselves
and they are trying to convince their people that the world's
attention is on Pakistan because of its geopolitical importance and
its successful diplomacy.

Peshawar is bleeding. Karachi is bleeding. Balochistan is bleeding.
The FATA is out of control. There is a new Great Game on in Pakistani
territory with the US intelligence agencies on the one side and Al
Qaeda and its associates on the other hunting each other, with the
Pakistan Army and the ISI helping both sides in their attempts to
kill each other and making money in the process.

While playing this treacherous game, the Pakistani leaders have the
cheek to project themselves to their own people and to the rest of
the world as playing an important role in bringing about peace in
Afghanistan. They are unable to bring about peace in their own
country. They are patting themselves thinking that they are going to
help the NATO forces in bringing about peace in Afghanistan.

Pakistan's penchant to live in a self-created world of illusions is
known to us. We are not surprised. But we are surprised by the
inability of the US and the rest of the world to see through the
games which Pakistani political and military leaders have always
played. They are letting themselves be sucked into Pakistan's world
of illusions.
